Chassagne-Montrachet premier cru
Clos du Château de la Maltroye monopole
Within the 13 hectares of the Château de la Maltroye, owned by the Cournut family since 1940, a superb chassagne-montrachet from the Premier Cru Le Clos du Château is signed.
The chardonnay that makes up this cuvée comes from 1.2 hectares of this 2.8-hectare enclosure that the family holds as a monopoly.
This noble grape variety draws its letters of nobility from a clay soil with flush limestone. The vines are about fifty years old and their clusters are directly pressurized.
The resulting wort is set to uncrow and the alcoholic fermentation is carried out in a vat (an inert container) at a low temperature in order to preserve the freshness and liveliness of the grapes.
The wine then makes an alcoholic fermentation and the estate prefers sticks in order to put the lees back in suspension. A technique that brings aromas, flavors and fat to the wine. Finally, the wine is aged in oak barrels, whose proportion of new wood reaches 30%, for one year.
The tasting reveals a wine tinged with gold and green reflections, a fruity bouquet, somewhat exotic, floral, mineral and empyreumatic. Powerful and persistent on a saline finish, this wine is kept for a long time in the cellar.
